Womens Basketball - George Bellows Art

Here's a design I've just uploaded to RetroRanger...its our Womens Basketball 1903 T-Shirt. I'm real excited to make this one available because it incorporates a woman basketball player as drawn for the 1903 Ohio State University yearbook by famous American artist George Bellows. Bellows was the art director for the Makio that one year but then dropped out of OSU to go be a baseball player. When that didn't work out he went to New York and art stardom. I was real lucky to get a hold of the 1903 Makio and found this drawing too cool to not put it on a shirt. Dig those quilted pants!

Classic Cat T-Shirt - Sunset Strip Strippers

We've got a new storefront working over at Artsnow.com. Its a Chinese knock-off of Cafepress, but with some cool wrinkles, not the least of which is a free store with unlimited items and unlimited images. I've started a store called "Sixties Fashion" which I'm gonna fill up with Sixties stuff, duh.
This design is something I lifted off an old book of matches. I've been investigating old matchbook covers for graphics. There small size has meant for very basic graphics, perfect to make a transition onto a t-shirt.
Anyhoo, this design is for The Classic Cat, which was the top strip joint on Sunset Strip back in the sixties. The place was big with celebrities...actors like Bob Crane and musicians like Jim Morrison. Check out The Classic Cat T-Shirt at Sixties Fashion.

Big Johnson T-Shirt

I get a lot of Google traffic to RetroRanger from people searching for "Big Johnson." I imagine the searchers are disappointed to find that the match they think they've found is actually for my Walter "Big Train" Johnson t-shirt. I have no idea whether Walter had a big johnson or not, but he did have the greatest fastball of his time, which translated into 3508 career strike-outs and 110 shutouts pitched.

Y107 Nashville T-Shirt

We're launching a new category of designs over at RetroRanger...we call it the Radio Graveyard. Through all my years in radio one thing that always astounded me was how radio management would make a format change and just toss away years of branding. As someone involved in programming and promotions, it was always a major bummer to see the hard efforts at community involvement (yes, bar promotions and car dealership remotes) go down the drain with any new format change.
Plus, great graphics and art that meant a lot to many people were chucked into the nearest dumpster. I just worked up our first entry in the Radio Graveyard...some excellent old art from Y107, which was a kick-ass fun CHR station in Nashville in the 80s and early 90s. Sadly killed by the corporate suits.

Willys T-Shirt for Mudders and Diggers

We've had a few days solid rain around here and all the trails are good and muddy. Weather like this and thoughts naturally turn to four wheeling and the vehicles we love to get muddy. Here's a new design we just uploaded to RetroRanger...nothing particularly original but nobody else has it available. This is the classic Script Logo of Willys Motor Company...makers of the originally WW2 Jeep as well as the Jeepster and Willys Pickup and other uber-tough early four wheel drive vehicles.

Base Jumping Idaho T-Shirt

Adding designs to the IdahoVille inventory today. I was thinking about the late, great Evel Knievel, who took his final leap skyward yesterday, and was considering working up a design based on Knievel's rocket-bike try at jumping the Snake River Canyon at Twin Falls in the late 70s. My mind wandered though, a couple thousand feet west of Evel's jumpsite, to the Perrine Bridge which spans the canyon about 500 feet above the Snake River. The powers that be in Twin Falls actually allow base jumpers to use the bridge as a launch-point. I don't know of any other U. S. municipality that allows base jumping of their infrastructure. There may be one, but I don't know about it.
So, Evel lost out on a new design and instead I worked up a "Base Jump, Idaho" graphic and splattered it on some of the IdahoVille shirts.

Idaho Pixies - Idaho T-Shirt

Here's a design I worked up for the crew at IdahoVille. I've had this set of pixies holding placards for some time, I lifted them from a 1930s children's music book and have been waiting for a chance to use them. So, it was a simple matter of plugging in some letters and adding some color.
These Idaho Pixies T-Shirts are cuter than all git-out, and I would immediately fall in love with any Idaho girl wearing this shirt.

Fishing in Idaho T-Shirt Design

A new design we worked up for the folks at IdahoVille, a Cafepress shop that features Idaho-themed gift items. The basic design is some fabulous art pinched from a 1960s Idaho tourism brochure. We just cleaned it up and added the text...I'd Rather Be Fishin' In Idaho.

Sugar Beats Taters Anyday

Just pickin' a fight. Here's a shirt we've worked up for IdahoVille..."Idaho, more than just potatoes. There's Also Sugar Beets."
For those who don't know, sugar beets grow wild in Idaho...usually in huge piles next to the railroad tracks.

Idaho Girl T-Shirt at IdahoVille

The design consortium has opened a new Cafepress store...named "IdahoVille" because all the designs will have an Idaho theme. I worked up a few things over the weekend for IdahoVille, including this'n, the Idaho Girl T-Shirt. Used a posterboard font in a nice dark sage and the flower is the Syringa, which is Idaho's state flower. I made the Syringa a light-yellow, even though the variety that grows wild in Idaho is closer to white. I just like a little color and hopefully the Idaho Girls will agree.

Oboe Star T-Shirt

This is a design I worked up for the band room over at RetroRanger. We needed something with an oboe-theme. The immediate thought I had was terrifying zombies with blood gushing from their ears....yea, zombies chasing down an oboe player and dragging him/her to the "lair of the double-reeds" and force feeding them hours and hours of their own ear-gashing sqwaks and screeches until they beg for mercy. Oh, sorry, I've never been an oboe fan.
Instead I cooked up this "Oboe Star" design...see, the five oboes make a star. No, I didn't work up a Jewish version with six oboes.

X-Ray Specs on a T-Shirt

I spent way too much time reading comic books when I was a kid, and this was something that always intrigued me...X-Ray Specs for seeing through walls or doors or, more importantly, women's clothing.
This is the X-Ray Specs Women's Tank Top at RetroRanger, but the design is available on a whole array of t-shirts, sweatshirts, tanks, jerseys...plus gift items as well. We've always figured it makes a great gift for an X-Ray Tech.

This One Time on the Band Bus...

This is one of our bestsellers over in the Music Room at RetroRanger...the "What Happens on the Band Bus, Stays on the Band Bus" T-Shirt, or in this case, hoodie:

Dude, when I was in high school the Band Bus was the coolest place in the world. And not just because the cheerleaders rode with the band, although that was a contributing factor. No, what made the old Bluebird so Cool was that we would, oh wait, I almost lost my mind and divulged the eternal secrets. Tell you what, hitch a ride on the band bus to the next away game, and find out for yourself.

This is the Chess Game T-Shirt at RetroRanger...vintage chess graphics wrapped with a great quote by Benjamin Franklin.

This is our Auctioneer T-Shirt at RetroRanger. This great graphic comes from a 1920s farm publication and we worked it
into this auction themed design. We figure this will make a great gift for an eBay seller, or even a good old-school auctioneer.

Lovin Tony Romo T-Shirts

Sometimes you can slave for a couple of hours coming up with a great visual to put on a t-shirt, and not sell a one of the darn things. Other times you can get a quick thought, pop it on a shirt, and have a best seller.
Last week I was watching the Cowboys dismantle the Eagles with a couple buds, and Alan confessed that Tony Romo was the one man who could lure him to join the other side. That was good for a chuckle and gave birth to a new t-shirt.
Over at RowdyTease the "I'm Homo For Romo" t-shirts are flying out the door.

Spud T-Shirt

This is a design I came up with sometime back, actually the graphic
from a 1920's brand of cigarette. David in TX has bought one of the
toddler t-shirts for a little one. Sorry kids, we had to discontinue
the "free pack of smokes with every shirt sold" promotion.

International Order of Houyhnhnms

A new design at RetroRanger T-Shirts...this is the "International Order of Houyhnhnms" design. The Houyhnhnms were the Horses of Reason that Lemuel Gulliver met on his travels. The enemies of the Houyhnhnms were the slothful Yahoos. Doesn't seems fair that the Yahoos, losers that they were, get a search engine named after them and the noble Houyhnhnms get nothing. Till now.
